As it prepares to reopen following a $28 million renovation, Baltimore Center Stage announced today that it has a new pre-show restaurant vendor.
Flavor, a Mount Vernon restaurant owned by Julia and Vanna Belton, has been selected to serve lunch or dinner beginning two hours before each performance. Its offshoot will be called Flavor at Baltimore Center Stage.
Entrees, small plates, beer, wine and coffee will be served from a new dining space on the theater’s mezzanine level. Small plates will be served at the first floor Sherman Café and Bar, along with a full bar managed by the theater. The new Nancy K. Roche Bar on the fourth floor will provide full bar service and light snacks.
“As we reopen our theater doors to the community, we’re thrilled to offer new dining options for our patrons,” said Baltimore Center Stage managing director Michael Ross in a statement. “We chose Flavor as our dining partner because of its innovative creations and the fresh energy Julia and Vanna Belton will bring to the dining experience at Baltimore Center Stage.”
Open since mid-2015 at 15 E. Centre Street, Flavor is several blocks from the theater at 700 N. Calvert Street and specializes in American bistro fare. Executive chef Julia Belton is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and previously worked at Eleven Madison Park in New York City. She also has studied at Cornell’s Business Hospitality School.
“It is beyond exciting to be embarking on this new partnership after the rebirth of Baltimore Center Stage,” Julia Belton said in a statement. “Many people do not realize that food is an art form, even simple dishes. As the food service provider for Baltimore Center Stage, I want to ensure that the dining experience is as tantalizing as the shows.”
Preview performances of “The White Snake,” the first production being shown in the renovated Head Theater, will begin on Friday. Food service will be available that same day.
The theater has scheduled a grand reopening celebration on March 3, to coincide with opening night for “The White Snake.”
