That little joy nuggets incident aside, Baltimoreโ€™s recent crop of small breweries remain worth mentioning among the best craft beers in the land. This week, Food Republic has a piece that measures up the stateโ€™s scene. They even have room for distilleries.

In the piece, titled Maryland is fast becoming a place to watch for beer and spirits,โ€ writer and native Baltimorean Kathy Wielech Patterson focuses in on Heavy Seas, Union, Stillwater, Brewerโ€™s Art and Flying Dog. She also notes Marylandโ€™s history of producing rye whiskey, and points out Lyon Distilling and Blackwater Distilling as modern-day example.

If thereโ€™s two things to be known for, weโ€™ll take beer and whiskey any day.
