FHSPolice are searching for suspects in a Tuesday night shooting at Frederick High School. Two local students were injured in the shooting, which happened during a basketball game.

According to Frederick police, the shooting happened just after 8 p.m. while Frederick’s JV basketball team played Gov. Thomas Johnson High inside. The two students who were wounded were flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment. Their injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Students ran back into the lobby of the school after the shooting, and police immediately locked down the school. Frederick High School and nearby West Frederick Middle School remained closed for students on Thursday. Detectives are still working to determine how many people were involved in the incident, as well as the motive.

“What happened this evening does not define in any way what Frederick High School is all about,” Frederick County Schools Supt. Theresa Alban said in a video message released Thursday. “We all know that there are issues many times that are out there in the community that sometimes spill into our schools. And that’s exactly what happened yesterday.”
