Editor’s note: The Jake’s Day event that was scheduled to take place Saturday, April 12, has been postponed due to inclement weather. The event has been rescheduled for May 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Waterfront Partnership will host its annual Jake’s Day event at Jake’s Skate Park at Rash Field Park on May 10, in memory of Jake Owens — a young avid skater who lost his life at 5 years old when a distracted driver hit his family’s car.

To celebrate Jake’s passion for skating, Rash Field’s Jake’s Day offers free skate lessons to children under 12 from professional skateboarder Joey Jett of Bmore Create, and from instructors from the Skatepark of Baltimore and Shape Skate Foundation. The first 100 skaters will receive a free Jett Brand tote bag.

Jake’s Skate Park opened in November 2021 as part of the Rash Field Park and was named Best of Baltimore’s Best Skate Park in 2022. The space serves as a local hub for skaters and the community, providing a safe, encouraging space for new skaters to learn and practice skills and enjoy their hobby.

In addition to skating on their own or with lessons, attendees will have the chance to enjoy skate gear giveaways, ice cream from Miss Twist, kids’ yoga, face painting, and music and movement by Illestrate.

The Annual Jake’s Day event will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Rash Field Park is located at 201 Key Highway, Baltimore, MD. To register and learn more about the event, click this link.
