The Orioles announcer Melanie Newman's got the jokes.

What a way to start the weekend! A magnitude 4.8 earthquake centered in New Jersey was shallow enough to be felt as far south as here in Maryland, throughout New York State, and as far north as Maine.

Itโ€™s not a huge earthquake as far as these things go, but itโ€™s unusual for the region and a bit alarming if a person isnโ€™t used to them. There have been no major disruptions in New Jersey or New York as far as transportation is concerned.

Here were some local reactions in and around Baltimore:

Media and government officials reported the same:

Some Maryland folks are ready for the drama to stop.

Some are impressed with how X (formerly Twitter) stays unmatched for keeping up with the news.

Others blamed the dog.

This gif of The Weeknd got a lot of mileage.

Meanwhile, our pals to the north took it in good stride.

And the certainly never delusional Mets fans knew exactly what caused the unusual occurrence.

Regardless, thanks, Mother Nature, for making X feel like old-timey Twitter again!
