As we have done over the past few years, we’re going take a look back at which were the most popular houses I featured. I don’t see the stats and number of views for each house, so it’s always a surprise to me what you, the reader, liked the most.

The significant increase in interest rates has made for a confusing market. People are loathe to sell and lose their low interest rates buying a new house, so they’re holding on until the rates shift downward. Like 2024, this has resulted in a low inventory of houses on the market.

However, over the past year, I managed to find some special properties to share with you. I try to divide the houses between the city and the county with some at the top of the market pricing, and others not so much.

So, here we go with the hottest of the Hot Houses for 2024!

In fifth place is a charming Normandy-style house in Homeland, overlooking the smaller lakes on St. Dunstan’s Road. There is a Euro feel to the house, both inside and out. With its four beds, five baths, and 3,600 square feet, it was listed at a very reasonable $695,000 in July and sold in November for $775,000.

In fourth place is this Georgian-style apartment at the top of the Warrington. It comes with spectacular views across the city, as well as two beds and three baths over 3,700 square feet on two floors. The light-filled apartment is laden with gorgeous details and an outside terrace. It was listed for $2.5 million, but is now off the market.

In third place are two former city libraries on the East Side which both went on the market at the same time. The smaller of the two was one of the five original branches. Located a few blocks from Hopkins Hospital, it was a church most recently. The larger has been completely redone, and after being used as a private home, became an event space. It boasts amazing views into downtown. Neither property sold, and both are now off the market.

In second place is one of the most interesting houses I’ve ever featured – an octagonal house in Mt. Washington, actually one of several in the neighborhood! It has five bedrooms and five baths over 2,600 square feet. Decorating can be a challenge with very few right angles! The house was listed at $699,000 and eventually sold for $640,000.

In top place is a house with a special meaning to me. It is a huge house in Guilford which was originally home and office to a renowned physician from the early 1900s whose portrait hangs in our offices, and it was designed by my favorite architects, Palmer & Lamdin. The house has eight beds and eight baths over 8,000 square feet. The property also features a pool and tennis/paddle court. The asking price was $1.3 million and sold for $1.25 million.

Rounding out the top ten for 2024 are the following:

I can’t wait to see what houses come on the market in 2025, but in the meantime, please accept our best wishes for a happy, safe, and prosperous New Year!
