Classic dressers of Baltimore have something to celebrate this week, with the opening of Brooks Brothers’ new shop in Harbor East.
The 5,400 square foot store is bright, sparkling and well-stocked, including all the items Brooks Brothers’ enthusiasts love, from the accessible, classic Red Fleece line, excellent go-to-hell pants and stacks of warthog-emblazoned polos to newer additions to the BB line-up.
Highlights at the new store include the brand new Spring 2016 women’s collection designed by Zac Posen, who became Creative Director of Brooks Brothers in 2014, and an extensive Made to Measure men’s suiting department.
Zac Posen’s collection combines the best of the clean, all-American Brooks Brother’s aesthetic with the designer’s trademark attention to detail. Each month, a new custom pattern, exclusive to Brooks Brothers, is introduced; it’s found on scarves, dresses, other clothing – and on artwork around the shop.
March’s pattern is a fun floral motif in cool shades of mint, blue and cream. It’s fun and perfect for the start of spring.
On opening day, manager Lee Marcavage was gorgeous in Posen’s red silk shirtdress, which is versatile and pretty – and also extremely practical. She’d been wearing the dress for hours and there wasn’t a wrinkle on it.
“Zac Posen really understands how to fit a woman’s body, whether they’re a zero or a fourteen,” says Marcavage. “This feels great and it’s comfortable.”
Posen’s trademark attention to detail is on display all over his collection, with little touches like shoes with buckles shaped like the letter “B.” Small details go a long way,” says Marcavage.
For men, the new shop includes a section devoted to casual clothes – including a pair of red sailboat pants that scream Chesapeake Bay – and an extensive selection of dress shirts, ties and suits.
The most sartorially-inclined gentlemen will be especially excited about the Made to Measure section, located in the
back corner of the shop. Men in search of custom fits can make an appointment (or even walk in, though appointments are preferred) and work with an expert do design a suit perfectly tailored to both their bodies and needs.
The shop has thousands of fabrics available, ranging in texture and design, from very conservative to more fun looks. Brooks Brothers also offers semi-custom options – Brooks Brothers tailors can tweak the fit and details on off-the-rack suiting – and a custom shirt program.
“We’ll help pick the options that are best in look and functionality,” says Marcavage, noting that different situations call for different suits. But no matter what the circumstances, it’s likely that Brooks Brothers will have those needs covered.
Brooks Brothers is located at 509 Aliceanna Street in Harbor East. 443.220.0590.
