From the verbose flavors to the music and lights that occasionally celebrates a repeat customer, The Charmery has plenty to look at. But it’s the bathroom that is winning accolades this week.
The Hampden ice cream parlor’s throne room is one of 10 rain closets selected for Cintas’ America’s Best Restroom Contest. Rather than the commode, the contest pays attention to the marine life that dots the walls of the loo.

The calming blue color palette of this restroom makes it feel like you’re under the sea. With hanging sculptures of aquatic creatures made from plastic spoons, mood lighting and an octopus mirror, this bathroom takes you on a mythical undersea adventure.
Along with other creative takes like a Dr. Who themed bathroom in New York, it’s up against Milwaukee’s sustainable Urban Ecology Park and the urinal gaming system of Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania, among others.
