Here’s something most Baltimoreans can agree on: What’s better than one Charmery? Two Charmeries.

Maybe you’ve got kids that need to get to bed early. Maybe you’ve done all the holiday events and need two ball drops to fill their night. Maybe you just don’t want to wait until midnight to watch 2016 die. The Charmery’s New Year’s Eve party fits any of these bills.

From the verbose flavors to the music and lights that occasionally celebrates a repeat customer, The Charmery has plenty to look at. But it’s the bathroom that is winning accolades this week.

I see Doug Wetzel at the Waverly Farmers Market pretty much every Saturday. He’s the Executive Pastry Chef at Gertrude’s at the BMA, one of Baltimore’s longest running (and really delicious) restaurants. There he is with his Radio Flyer wagon filled with fruits and vegetables, alongside him Gertie’s owner and Executive Chef John Shields, who is quite possibly the nicest man alive. They stop at all of their regular weekly vendors, visiting, buying. They do farm-to-table but in such a quiet way, it’s just the way they’ve always done it.

Ice Cream for Breakfast at the Charmery

catch of the day fish (2)Weekend brunch is pretty great no matter what. But you know what else is great? Ice cream. And you know when it’s best? Any time. Luckily, the folks over at The Charmery seem to agree with us, which is why they’re hosting an Ice Cream for Breakfast event tomorrow, Saturday, February 7th. They’re declaring it, “the most wonderful, delicious, morning of the year!” And we can’t see why we wouldn’t agree. So throw on your best footie pajamas (yes, dressing in your PJs is encouraged) and head down for the least nutritious breakfast of the year.

Thanksgiving Ice Cream Pies from The Charmery

Charmery Pie

catch of the day fish (2)Sure, a few days ago we said we wouldn’t trust our Thanksgiving dessert table to anyone by Dangerously Delicious Pies. And we still stand by that…kind of. But how were we to know that our top fave locavore ice cream shop, The Charmery, was offering their own version of a Thanksgiving pie delight? What began with us investigating their ice cream offerings in preparation for serving our own pies a la mode quickly spun out of control as we discovered The Charmery’s Thanksgiving special: a pie made from spiced pumpkin ice cream with a salty caramel topping and graham cracker crust. Can we possibly resist?

The Charmery

catch of the day fish (2)It seems like only yesterday that The Charmery opened its doors on the corner of the Avenue and Chestnut in Hampden. Back then, it was late summer, and everyone within a mile radius was practically banging down the doors, wondering when the mom and pop ice cream store would finally open and give us some sweet respite from the summer heat. This winter has sure been no picnic anywhere in the country– but here as we’re maybe seeing a few glimpses of spring, we figure let’s keep the hot beverages flowing for those last sweet moments.
