The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has opened submissions for its second annual Earth Day Art competition, which invites young people from across Maryland to use their creativity to highlight the connection between public transportation and sustainability in their own original artwork.
The finalistsโ artwork will be displayed on a specially wrapped bus, turning it into a moving โ literally and figuratively โ celebration of sustainability and artistic expression.
The deadline for Maryland youth to submit their artwork is March 17, 2025.
“Engaging the next generation in public transit and sustainability is crucial to building a more sustainable future,” said Holly Arnold, Maryland Transit Administrator, in a statement. “We are thrilled to provide a platform for these talented young people to showcase the positive impact of transit on our environment.”
The finalistsโ selected artwork will also be displayed in the Maryland State Department of Education Superintendentโs Student Gallery on Baltimore Street. Last year, the MTA received nearly 50 submissions from across Maryland. The six finalists represented Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Montgomery County and Prince Georgeโs County.
