What: I had my favorite house planned for today, but luckily (or not), it’s under contract, which is not surprising. So, I found this one, which is also great, but it hasn’t been my favorite since I was a child.
Sitting on the corner of Bellona and Joppa, right in the heart of Ruxton, this 1901 farmhouse with all of the features of a traditional farmhouse including a wrap-around porch, fish-scale shingles and four original fireplaces. The house will be on the market on July 23.
As you enter the house from the wide front porch, you see the original staircase with its recently re-finished wood railing. The wide-plank floors lead to the living room with one of the original four fireplaces, built-in cabinets, and two sets of French doors. One of the cabinets conceals a secret wet bar! There is a sitting room, adjacent to the kitchen, as well as a dining room with two sets of French doors leading to the porch.
The kitchen has recently been renovated with a gourmet gas range and custom hood, an large island, tiled floors with underfloor heating and a barn door leading to a pantry.
On the second floor, you will find the primary suite, with a newly renovated bathroom, with heated tile floors and laundry facilities. Three additional bedrooms and another bathroom are on the second floor. The third floor features a large space with newly finished original flooring, dormered eaves and loads of built-in storage. It can be used for myriad purposes including a playroom, exercise area, an additional bedroom, or the ubiquitous home office.

Where: As mentioned, the house is on the corner of Bellona Avenue and Joppa Road. It is close to the shops in Ruxton, including Graul’s, but you’d have to drive, as there are no sidewalks. It’s just a short drive over to Towson to the east or to Greenspring Station to the west.
Final Appraisal: If you’re looking for an older house with many of the original features remaining, but many of the modern conveniences, this is a great house. The listing for the house is here.
