This week is a good one for wine lovers, with the intro of new flights at Costeria and a wine dinner from The Corner Pantry and The French Paradox.

From wine flights to chili cookoffs, this week has a lot to offer on the Baltimore restaurant scene. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Openings & announcements

Doppio Pasticceria is now officially open in its permanent Remington digs, at the corner of Remington Ave. and W. 29th St. Doppio started with a pop-up in R. House and later oved to the former home of Parts & Labor and JBGB’s – which is now home to a new pop-up tenant, Equitea, which will occupy the space from Feb. 22 to March 22.

Cece’s will begin serving lunch on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

The Lord Baltimore Hotel has a new Food & Beverage Director and Executive Chef: Chef Beth Dinice. This is actually Chef Dinice’s second stint at the hotel; she was the Executive Chef from 2019 to 2023.

Sadly, beloved Hampden pizza spot Paulie Gee’s closed after service on Thursday. The news was reported on the pizza-centric Instagram account Bob’s Pizza Tour. On social media, the owner of Paulie Gee’s invited the community to share memories – and shared that hopefully, Paulie Gee’s will return to Baltimore in some format, soon.

DoorDash grant recipients

Last week, a handful of local restaurants were formally given $10,000 grants to help strengthen business. These grants, sponsored by DoorDash via its Key Bridge Restaurant Disaster Relief Fund, went to a variety of small businesses, including Cheezy’s Pizza & Subs, Deddle’s Donuts, Frank’s Bay Tavern, Marie Louis Bistro & Catering, No. 1 Chinese Kitchen, Pho Bac, Salty Dogs Crab House, Simply Marie’s, Sunset Raw Juice Bar, and Twist Fells Point.

Atlas gives back

Speaking of financial support for local organizations, Atlas Restaurant Group recently wrapped its first Dine to Donate Restaurant Week event, benefiting TasteWise Kids. The promotion, which ran from Jan. 17 to Jan. 26 and included participation from Atlas restaurants in Baltimore and Annapolis, raised a total of $17,608 for the nonprofit, which runs programming designed to encourage healthy eating among children.

Flight Night at Costiera

On Friday, Feb. 21, Costiera is introducing a new program: Flight Night. During the evening, guests can try flights of interesting wines that aren’t often on the list at Costiera (or anywhere else).

Back to the ‘80s at Joe Benny’s

On Saturday, Joe Benny’s hits the time machine with a ticketed ‘80’s party. The party, which takes place in the restaurant’s upstairs space, includes an ‘80’s-inspired dinner and live music. Downstairs, the dining room will still be open for business as usual.

Sleepy Sunday

On Sunday evening, the Hampden area is getting cozy with a Sleepy Sunday Onesie Bar Crawl. The event starts at Blue Pit BBQ before moving on to Wicked Sisters, Golden West, Zissimos and The Bluebird.

Toki x Jabali

On Tuesday, Toki Underground teams up with the crew from Jabali for a meal celebrating the flavors of European cuisine. The meal, which will be served at a private, communal table and is limited to 24 guests, includes six courses, each paired with wine or spirits.

Celebration of Black Wines & Spirits

Also on Tuesday, Hotel Revival hosts a tasting event showcasing a selection of wines and spirits from Black-owned businesses. The event, which is organized by the owner of Stem & Vine, is free but does require tickets.

The Corner Pantry x The French Paradox

On Thursday, The Corner Pantry teams up with The French Paradox for their first collaborative wine dinner since Corner Pantry expanded into its new space. The meal includes four savory courses plus dessert, with dishes like crispy duck salad with caramelized mandarins, apple and smoked honey dressing.

All You Need Is Rum

Also on Thursday, HEX Superette welcomes Lyon Rum founder Jaime Windon for a rum workshop and tasting. The event includes a discussion of rum production and uses plus a tasting and a mini cocktail to start.

Venetian Carnivàle at Cinghiale

On Friday, Cinghiale hosts an intriguing event: a masked, black tie dinner party inspired by Carnivàle in Venice. In addition to the sartorial drama, the evening includes a four-course meal with wine pairings, dessert and after dinner drinks, and live music.

Full Sensory Karate Kid

The Charmery’s Full Sensory movie experience is heading back to the ‘80s this week with a run of the original “Karate Kid.” The events – which include a screening of the film accompanied by snacks, smells and more – have a four-day run, Friday through Sunday. Tickets are on sale now.

Chili at Manor Tavern

With temps as low as they have been, this winter’s weather has provided ideal conditions for chili-eating. On Friday, The Manor Tavern is making the most of that with the Great Chili Cook Off on Friday evening.

Guests can enter a chili for consideration by a panel of judges, with prizes including a dinner for eight at the restaurant.
