From moms to beers to springtime produce, this week is a great one to celebrate the local food scene. Here’s a look at what’s happening:

Openings & announcements

Equitea is moving to a new permanent spot in Remington Row. The company will be open in its current pop-up location on N. Howard Street through May and will move into its new space, which is off 28th Street, in June. Once Equitea opens in the new location, it will also have new hours: Tuesday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.

This summer, D.C.-based Ice Cream Jubilee will open its first Baltimore location in Harbor Point. The company has been voted “best ice cream” in Washington nine times – so it should be a tasty addition to Baltimore.

The Food Market now has free valet service for guests during dinner service.

Woodberry Kitchen has revamped its Tavern menu, featuring more casual and shareable fare.

Maryland Craft Beer Festival

On Saturday, the Brewers Association of Maryland hosts its annual event, the Maryland Craft Beer Festival, on May 10 – this year celebrating 25 years of craft beer in Maryland.

The festival takes place Carroll Creek Linear Park in Frederick and will feature over 200 different local brews. There will be live music, food trucks, and retail vendors – and there are VIP options available, too.

Remfest

Remington’s annual springtime party, Remfest, also takes place on Saturday, May 10. The festival, which takes over Remington Ave. from 27th Street to 29th Street, is family-friendly and features crafts, information about community projects, and tons of food and drink from neighborhood venues.

This year’s food and drink purveyors include Doppio Pasticceria, Fishnet, Big Softy, Sweet 27, Pink Flamingo, and Peabody Heights Brewery – plus the R. House businesses (including R. Bar).

Le Diner en Blanc

On Saturday, May 10, Le Diner en Blanc comes to Baltimore. During the ticketed event, guests gather, dressed in white, to dine together.

Mother’s Day plans

Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 11 – which means there’s still a little time left to make plans.

The party starts on Friday at Bunny’s, where guests can taste three Mumm sparkling wines, choose their favorite for their own mum and have it wrapped (with a card), all for $35.

Love, Pomelo is open for a special brunch and dinner service on Mother’s Day.

Verandah Kitchen is open for one of its new afternoon tea events on Mother’s Day.

Peerce’s brunch buffet includes both traditional breakfast dishes and Indian classics.

Charleston’s three-course Mother’s Day menu includes choices like low country she crab soup with Maryland lump crab, and fresh local asparagus with goat cheese and mustard vinaigrette.

Mt. Washington Tavern is open for brunch on Mother’s Day – and reservations are required.

Baltimore Fermentation Festival

Starting on Friday, May 16, HEX Superette hosts the Baltimore Fermentation Festival.

On Friday, fermentation expert and author Sandor Katz will be at HEX for a ticketed talk including cocktails and snacks.

Saturday, HEX hosts multiple workshops, including a free talk and demo by Katz. Other participating vendors include Clavel Bar Lab, Modern Stone Age Kitchen, Keepwell Vinegar. White Rose Miso, Jinji Chocolate, Prigel Family Creamery, Suspended Brewing, Pen Druid Brewing, Old Westminster Winery, Tortuga Kombucha, Genin Selections, Current Casis, Forthave Spirits, and Mostly Microbes.

What to eat right now

This time of year is full of sunshine, a few rain showers, and gorgeous produce. This week, keep an eye out for local asparagus at True Chesapeake, Charleston, Cinghiale, and Petit Louis, strawberries at Silver Queen Café, and morels (plus more asparagus) at Foraged.

Planning for the future

Mark your calendars for:

May 18: Light Up Little Italy

June 14: Wine & Food Festival at the Maryland State Fairgrounds

June 19: Tiki Dinner at Silver Queen Café
