From candy to cornbread, this week promises to be full of fall fun. Here’s a look at what’s happening in the Baltimore food scene:
Openings & announcements
Marta al Mare, the seafood-focused spinoff of Marta, has an opening date. The Harbor Point restaurant will open its doors on Nov. 19 – and reservations are available now.
Washington, D.C.-based soul food restaurant Oohh’s and Aahh’s recently opened a location in Fells Point, on South Broadway.
The Helmand is celebrating 37 years in business with a special anniversary menu available through Oct. 30. Congratulations to the entire team on their impressive tenure.
Sadly, Silver Queen Cafe announced this week that it will close its doors after service on Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving. The family behind the restaurant will continue to operate its new shop down the street, The Market at Hamilton.
As a reminder, this is the last weekend Baltimoreans can enjoy a Guinness at the local brewery. Guinness’s Baltimore location will shutter after Sunday.
Vote for Costiera
In honor of election season, Costiera is offering a complimentary glass of prosecco with the purchase of food for everyone who comes in with their ‘I voted’ sticker.
Goetze’s + Monument City
With candy season upon us, Monument City Brewing has partnered with Baltimore’s own Goetze’s Candy Company on a sweet new caramel ale. The Caramel Creams Amber Ale is a nod to Goetze’s famous candy – and it’s available now.
Final call for Halloween
Speaking of Halloween, there’s still a little time to snag tickets to The Bygone’s Halloween masquerade ball, dubbed The Ghost of Gatsby.
Johnny’s Halloween baked goods lineup is still available. Now is the time to hit the Roland Park restaurant for treats like Harry Potter-inspired Butterbeer blondies or a Beetlejuice cake roll.
The Manor Tavern’s menu has gone spooky in anticipation of Halloween, with weekend specials like the Mummy Meatball Sub and Dracula’s Blackened Cod werved with blood orange beurre blanc and cheesy grits.
On Halloween, Ryleigh’s Oyster hosts an outdoor party with live music, fire pits, and special fall drinks.
A pair of restaurants are going in costume themselves this Halloween: Clavel is ‘dressing up’ as Taco Bell and Bunny’s is transforming itself into IHOP for Halloween brunch.

Alma x La Calle
On Sunday, Nov. 1, the chefs from La Calle and Alma Cocina Latina are teaming up for a collaborative Day of the Dead dinner held at Alma. The four course meal will draw on the chefs’ Mexican and Venezuelan roots and family recipes. Tickets are available now.
Meat Monday
Thames Street Oyster House’s weekly menu twist, Meat Monday, is back for the cold-weather season. Every Monday from now through the winter, the Thames Street menu will include a slow-cooked meat dish designed to stick to your bones.
Love & Cornbread at Blue Pit
Love & Cornbread will pop up at Blue Pit BBQ the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 4, offering free samples of new products – like cookies and stuffing – and an array of treats available for purchase, including items that are perfect for hostess and holiday gifts.
Private cheffing
Chef Cyrus Keefer has launched a website outlining his availability as a chef-for-hire, both by the restaurant industry and individuals.
He’s available to create and prepare meals in people’s private homes or other venues and to lead interactive classes, featuring everything from prep to plating.
