From sparklers to sparkling wines, this week is a big one in Baltimore (and across the country). Here’s a look at how local restaurants are celebrating America’s 250th – and beyond:
Openings & announcements
Nest, a new restaurant serving beautiful American food, opened last Friday on N. Eutaw St.
The Royal Deli opened this week in Cross Street Market.
The Lord Baltimore Hotel has a new food and beverage manager, Milan Sapkota. His responsibilities include overseeing the hotel’s LB Bistro & Bakery, LB Tavern, and LB Skybar.
Seppia now has happy hour, Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the bar.
Sadly, after over 30 years in business, Szechuan House closed after service on June 30.
Fourth of July festivities
The biggest news this week, of course, is America’s 250th birthday celebration – and Baltimore is ready for it.
During the day on July 4, Guinness Open Gate Brewery is hosting a Summer Seafood & Bluegrass Festival, which includes all you can eat seafood, pit beef, and more, live music, and of course, lots of beer.
Johnny’s will be ready for guests following the Roland Park parade, with a patio party featuring grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, lemonade, live music, kids’ activities, and an appearance from the Lyfe Acai truck. (Note: getting there will be a little trickier than usual, since Roland Ave. closes for the parade.)
The fireworks over the Inner Harbor are slated to begin at 9 p.m. on July 4 and there will be prime viewing from all around the harbor – and nearby restaurants are gearing up for the party.
The Bygone, which offers one of the best views of the harbor from its 29th floor rooftop, is hosting a ticketed party with an open bar, DJ, raw bar and crab dip, and passed hors d’oeuvres.
Due to the holiday, some restaurants have adjusted their hours for the weekend. The Manor Tavern and Little Donna’s will not be open on Saturday and Sotto Sopra will be closed on Sunday. Peter’s Inn will be closed both days – but is open on Friday.
Woodford Reserve at Cece’s
On Wednesday, July 8, Cece’s hosts a multi-course dinner featuring pairings with Woodford Reserve whiskies. The dinner, which will be held in the courtyard, also includes a discussion of the whiskies and the storied brand.
Sommelier dinner at Charleston
Also on July 8, Charleston welcomes winemaker Miguel Calderon for a curated meal with specially-chosen pairings – think butter-poached lobster with heirloom tomatoes paired with a Grand Cru Brut Rose Champaigne.
The Local Oyster x Dodon
Tickets are on sale now for The Local Oyster’s pop-up event at The Vineyards at Dodon. The dinner, which takes place July 10, is a big seafood festival – plus Dodon’s excellent wine.
