Mid-summer means menus full of tomatoes, peaches and more local produce.

From BBQ news to summertime menu debuts, this week promises to be a tasty one in Baltimore. Here’s a look at what’s coming up in the restaurant world:

Openings & announcements

Towsonites and fans of BBQ have something new to cheer for this week, as the crew from Smoke, the beloved and much-missed Cockeysville barbecue spot, are becoming a permanent fixture at The Point in Towson. The newly combined concept, which will be called Smoke @ The Point, will kick off with an opening party on July 13.

Rye Street Tavern is gearing up to open its doors once again. Now a part of Clyde’s Restaurant Group, the Baltimore Peninsula restaurant has a targeted opening date of July 15.

Happy ten years in business to Ananda! The celebrated Howard County Indian restaurant opened on July 2, 2014.

Congratulations to The Prime Rib at Live! Casino on its recent recognition by Wine Spectator. The venerable magazine named the restaurant as one of the recipients of its 2024 Restaurant Awards, including an Award of Excellence, for its 180-wine list.

Thames Street Oyster House is closed this weekend for maintenance – but don’t worry, they’ll reopen on Monday.

Kenwood x CookHouse

On Monday, the folks from Canton’s Kenwood Tavern head north for a pop up at CookHouse in Bolton Hill. The event starts at 4 p.m. and lasts until sometime late.

Whimsical Wednesdays

The Food Market has a fun new Wednesday dinner option: Whimsical Wednesdays. Each week, the Hampden restaurant will offer a three-course prix-fixe menu featuring all kinds of creative dishes (that can also be paired with Wine Wednesday deals).

The menu will be new every week – this past week’s options included dishes like Crab Rangoon salad and ratatouille-stuffed salmon. The regular menu is also still available, which means you have lots of choices.

Old Westminster x Foraged

On Wednesday, Foraged is teaming up with Old Westminster Winery for a three-course wine dinner pairing wines with the restaurant’s hyper-seasonal, local cuisine. Reservations are available now.

Pizza at Kneads

Also on Wednesday, Kneads in Harbor East hosts a pizza-making class. After you learn how to make a great pizza, you’ll get to enjoy your creations – plus a glass or two of wine.

Brace yourself for high summer dining

The next few weeks are big ones in the local restaurant world – so it’s time to start thinking about reservations now. In addition to Baltimore City’s Restaurant Week, which kicks off on July 19, mid-July is when local gardens really start to come into their own – which means menus all around town go wild with seasonal produce.

This week, Silver Queen Café shifted to its high summer menu, which features dishes like peach and tomato panzanella salad, crab and corn fritters, and Maryland Pizza (local crab, corn and tomatoes).

At Bunny’s in Fells Point, this month means dishes like summer peach bruschetta with sugar snap peas, peaches, mint and burrata on sourdough toasts and tomato and mozzarella-stuffed gnocchi.

It also means its time for events showcasing the best of the season, like Ggoma Supper Club’s upcoming matchup with Old Westminster Winery and restaurateur Helmand Karzai, on July 22. The dinner, which will be held at Tapas Teatro, will be about all things summer, from sangria to tomatoes.
