Tomato fans are in luck this week, as many restaurants have special menus and dinners planned around high tomato season in Baltimore.

This week, the Baltimore food scene is sweet, savory, and very, very seasonal. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Openings & announcements

Werewolves Welcome, a hotly anticipated new cocktail bar, is now open in Old Goucher.

Congratulations to the Blue Moon Café crew, which celebrated thirty years in business this past week!

Happy 10th anniversary to Wet City, which will celebrate a decade in business with an all day and night party on Aug. 15.

Sweet and cold treats are back at Gertrude’s. This weekend, the Cone Sisters Snow Cone Stand will be open, serving snowballs and ice cream. If you miss this weekend, you can catch the pop-up in September (19-20) or October (3-4 and 17-18).

Baltimore magazine reports that Aru Aru, the popular Salvadoran pop-up from the family that owned the now closed El Paraiso, will (hopefully) open its permanent location on Aug. 21.

Flour & Wood pop-up

Flour & Wood at La Maison, the soon-to-open pizza spot from the Café Dear Leon crew, is doing a pop-up starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14. The pizza is first-come, first-served – and there will probably be a line. h

Red Lobster at The Dive

Starting on Monday, Aug. 17 and lasting through Aug. 22, The Dive brings back its much-loved Red Lobster week including, of course, Cheddar Bay Biscuits.

Tomato dinners

High tomato season is one of the most glorious times of the year for eating. This week, restaurants are putting tomatoes at the center of the plate, with dinners and specials dedicated to their juicy goodness.

On Tuesday, Aug. 18, Hersh’s goes full tomato, with a special menu – and cute merch to match.

Wednesday, Sally O’s teams up with Richfield Farm for a tomato-forward wine dinner. Courses include dishes like savory tomato pie topped with corn ice cream and crispy basil, and sweet and sour-glazed duck breast with tomato pancakes.

La Jetée is going all in on tomatoes with a Fête des Tomates menu featuring tomatoes served a variety of ways, from in a bisque to blistered on top of salad.

Boordy x Forno

On Wednesday, Boordy’s Supper Club series returns with a visit from chefs Vern Smith and Jimmy Dipino of Forno. The menu sounds terrific, including dishes like squash blossom and fig salad, and porchetta with rapini and lentils.

Farmers’ Market class

Also on Wednesday, Cosima offers a cooking class inspired by what’s currently available at local farmers’ markets. The class, taught by Chef Donna Crivello and bartender John Brown, includes instruction in making a dinner and drinks highlighting the most seasonal produce.

Sardinian wines & food

Also on Wednesday, Daniela Pasta and Pastries in Hampden hosts a special wine dinner featuring the food and wines of Sardinia. The meal will be served family style and is sure to be spectacular.

Albert Bichot Wine Supper

On Thursday, The Manor Tavern is throwing an exciting wine dinner showcasing selections from Albert Bichot. The menu includes summery dishes like seared sea scallop in thyme oil and corn broth, and pasta tossed with fresh herbs and cherry tomatoes from the Tavern garden, and topped with a poached duck egg. Tickets are on sale now.
