While Joe Squared’s Station North location is a much-loved neighborhood institution and perhaps even more-loved pizza, it’s not a secret that the building needs some work. When we visited earlier this year, the pizza spot had to close early because of plumbing issues. With the issues mounting and the landlord allegedly refusing to make repairs, owner Joseph Edwardsen is looking to move to a new location.
Edwardsen said he fears being priced out of the current location amid the current uptick in redevelopment on North Ave. He identified a new location that’s roughly a block away on North Ave., near Red Emma’s and Windup Space.
“We’ll have 40 more seats including a separate music venue that will add to the growing entertainment scene in Station North,” Edwardsen states.
Edwardsen is looking to raise $220,000 in a month to make the switch, and he’s turning to the public to help out. Through a GoFundMe account that appeared today, Edwardsen is offering up gift cards and other special offers to people who pitch in. He’s treating the fundraising effort as an upfront way to help the business out now, and get the pizza at a later date.
“Essentially, you are pre-purchasing the food and alcohol that you love,” the GoFundMe page states.
