Maryland’s mass vaccination center at M&T Bank Stadium will close on July 15, after administering more than 200,000 doses of vaccine.
Maryland Stadium Authority executive director Michael Frenz told the stadium authority board on Tuesday that the center has already begun to reduce hours.
The football stadium at 1101 Russell Street became one of the busiest vaccination sites in the state after the University of Maryland Medical System, the Ravens, the Maryland National Guard and others transformed the Club Level into a 55,000-square-foot vaccination clinic.
The center started accepting appointment slots on February 25, and on April 9, it began giving shots to those without an appointment, drawing long lines. Now the state is winding down certain large sites and shifting to more targeted strategies, with more than 70 percent of the population vaccinated, including 44 percent in Baltimore City.
“It was a very important part of the state’s response” to the coronavirus pandemic, Frenz said. “Kudos to everyone involved.”
