Looking to test the waters before getting your fishing license?
Maryland residents and visitors can cast a line without a fishing license, trout stamp, or registration during the state’s designated license-free fishing days on June 6, June 13, and July 4.
Individuals can catch and keep finfish for recreational purposes in any of Maryland’s tidal or nontidal waters during these days.
Just be sure to follow the state’s regulations, including size and catch limits, which can be found in the Maryland Department of Natural Resource’s fishing and crabbing guide.
New and experienced anglers alike can access a variety of DNR resources that can aid their fishing fun, such as an interactive angler access map and fish identification charts. Folks can also sign up for the weekly Maryland Fishing Report to get up-to-date fishing information.
Anglers who find themselves hooked on the hobby can obtain or renew their fishing license online, in person at a department service center or participating retail sports license agents, or by phone at 866-344-8889.
All individuals age 16 or older in Maryland must have a fishing license other than on license-free days.
DNR is encouraging anglers to catch invasive species like Chesapeake Channa (northern snakehead) and blue catfish, which threaten native species. Officials report these invasive fish species are tasty, high in protein, and have no seasons or limits on catching them.
