Miss Shirley’s restaurant in Roland Park, one of several locations.

In honor of Maryland Vegan Restaurant Month, Miss Shirley’s Cafe has released a specialty vegan menu to be served in their Roland Park, Inner Harbor, and Annapolis locations.

The speciality menu features three sections: ‘Wake Up Your Tastebuds,’ which is a selection of starters, ‘Gluten-Free Griddle Cakes,’ and ‘House Specialties.’

‘Wake Up Your Tastebuds’ contains a medley of plant-based breakfast small plates, including bagels and preserves, oatmeal, and sourdough citrus avocado toast. Gluten-free starters include grapefruit brûlée, a seasonal fruit medley, mixed greens, and hash browns.

The ‘Gluten-Free Griddle Cakes’ resemble Miss Shirley’s ever-popular menu item, but do not contain any gluten or animal product. Guests can enjoy the gluten-free, vegan pancakes plain, or they can order them topped with fresh banana, blueberry, strawberry, or pineapple. The griddle cakes are served with pure maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar.

Guests have their choice of bowls, salads, or sandwiches when ordering from the house specialties. Miss Shirley’s offers four specialty bowls and salads, as well three vegan sandwiches, including a veggie bagel, a powerhouse sandwich, and black bean burger, for guests to order.

While Miss Shirley’s serves up plant-based dishes year-round, the expanded vegan menu is available only through Sunday, August 28th.

In previous years, participating restaurants have celebrated two individual Maryland Vegan Restaurant Weeks throughout the year, once in the summer and once in the winter. This is the first year that Maryland Vegan Eats, the parent association of Maryland Vegan Restaurant Month, has devoted an entire month to the celebration.

“The mission of Maryland Vegan Restaurant Month is to bridge the gap by increasing the awareness, benefits, and accessibility of a plant-based diet through a fun, innovative, and community-based experience,” reads a statement about the event on Maryland Vegan Eats’ website.
There are over 20 restaurants throughout Maryland participating in Maryland Vegan Restaurant Month, including Baltimore favorites like Wicked Sisters, The Charmery, and The Land of Kush. For a complete list of participating restaurants, visit Maryland Vegan Eats.
