Old Bay has a habit of lasting for a while, but the tins may end up on a lot Baltimore grocery lists next week. McCormick is making a limited edition Old Bay tin to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Cal Ripkenโ€™s iron man streak.

The spice company has ordered up 48,000 tins, which will be emblazoned with the 2131 banners that hung on the Camden Yards warehouse when Ripken surpassed Lou Gehrig for most consecutive Major League games played. The tins will available in states throughout the Mid-Atlantic, including Maryland, starting the week of August 17.

Proceeds will go to the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, which engages underserved youth with baseball-oriented programs.

The 20th anniversary of The Streak is proving to inspire new products. Along with Old Bayโ€™s tin, Heavy Seas is making a beer to mark the anniversary. Whoโ€™s next?
