The local feminist/queer/trans-fronted punk band Santa Librada says its music touches on “feminism, transgender rights, love, sex and the surveillance state.” With the song “Something to Say,” the four-piece takes on that certain kind of obnoxious jerk who has to talk over everyone and weigh in on everything.

As Rahne Alexander, the band’s vocalist and, per Facebook, purveyor of attitude, shouts: “I can’t believe there’s still sound coming out of your mouth/ Guess what, you don’t have to have a hot take on every little thing/ You can actually just sit and take in information without typing up an opinion/ Oh! You’re exhausting!” (Full disclosure: Alexander has freelanced for Baltimore Fishbowl.)

Because it can never be that easy, the song then gives way to the chorus: “You should just shut up /You should just shut up/ Just shut up, because I’ve got something to say!”

It is a welcome and necessary shout down of online and IRL trolls everywhere.

In the video, premiering here for the very first time, the members of Santa Librada, dressed in the make-up and rad outfits of the ’80s metal band Twisted Sister, storm a corporate board room and menace all the suits, signaling the need for voices at the table other than the straight, white, male ones.

Watch it below:

The band will be playing a July 20 show to mark the vinyl release of its self-titled debut album, first put out in March of this year. It happens to be the Feast Day of their namesake patron saint.
