This is the first post in a series about the designers creating clothing and accessories sold at Sassanova in Harbor East.
Since she was a young girl, Dallas-based jewelry designer Catherine Page has brimmed with creativity. Inspired by the beauty in ordinary objects, from headbands to pennies, her education in medieval art history, and by memories of her own life, Page uses natural stones and metals to create jewelry that adds dramatic, elaborate flair to even the simplest looks.

Sassanova shoppers will love Pageโs attention to detail, from intricate curls of gold on an earring to a necklaceโs bold ovals of rutilated quartz. Pageโs jewelry works with everything from date-night dresses to the most casual jeans and tees.
We caught up with Page to talk about her background and what she loves about designing jewelry โ and about being a creative person overall.
How did you get started in the jewelry design business?
I began designing jewelry years ago, when I looked around and realized that there was nothing out there that I liked, or if I did like it, I couldnโt afford it.

As far as the business aspect, I made a firm commitment in the beginning to sell wholesale. My thinking was that if my jewelry wasnโt good enough to sell to the anonymous person, then it wasnโt good enough. I was not going to jeopardize relationships by pushing my jewelry on unsuspecting family and friends. Nor, as a mom of four kids, was I going to spend weekends at local vendor shows with only limited regional exposure.

What is your favorite thing about designing your jewelry?
Let me say this first of all: The artist who knows only his one craft and nothing else will turn out, ultimately, to be very superficial. Having said that, Iโm certainly not limited to jewelry design. I design anything โ because I have to design. Creating is what holds me together as a person, and always has.

Thus, there is no favorite part of designing. Itโs just something I have to do.
What does Catherine Page jewelry say about the woman who wears it?
When a woman wears my jewelry, my hope is that it causes her inside self and outside self to match. I want it to help her reflect the shimmering truth of who she really is.

How does your jewelry fit into womenโs wardrobes? What types of occasions are best?
Please โ every occasion and no occasion.
