A new bar is set to open in Upper Fells Point next month, before transforming into an “art bar” early next year.
Saunter Corner Bar will open Sept. 5, 2024 at 1801 E. Lombard St. It is replacing BAR1801, which closed in September 2023.
The corner bar will offer classic cocktails, craft beer, customizable burgers and fries, and more.
Then, in early 2025, the space will become Meander Art Bar, where patrons will be able to enjoy food and beverages alongside arts and crafts.
“We provide the tools, space, and support. You provide the imagination,” said Martha Robichaud, founder and operator of Saunter/Meander, in a statement. “Guests can pick from activities like charcoal drawing, watercolor, air-dried clay, and even Legos. We bring the kit straight to your table, along with instructions, prompts, and tips to get you started.”
The team behind the Saunter/Meander bars envision the venue as a space for community members to gather and enjoy art workshops and galleries while also having a great meal.
As final details for the Meander bar are worked out, Saunter will help bridge the gap until its successor’s opening.
“Saunter is for the neighborhood,” Robichaud said. “We knew the community missed BAR1801, and we needed to activate the space right away. This gives us the opportunity to make Meander exactly what it should be while filling the neighborhood cocktail bar void.”
In addition to Robichaud, the team behind Saunter/Meander also include No Land Beyond co-owner Michael Cohn, and BAR1801 and Kenwood Tavern co-owners Matthew and Molly Steinberg.
Individuals can contact Robichaud at info@meanderartbar.com to suggest an idea for an art workshop or to ask about upcoming events.
