AIMS Annual Job Fair – Tuesday, March 2

Looking for a career in a Maryland or DC independent school? Attend the annual AIMS Job Fair on Tuesday, March 2, and talk directly to representatives from 45+ AIMS schools and to learn about all the opportunities available for the upcoming school year.

There is no cost to job candidates to participate in the job fair, but registration is required. Candidates should plan to register online by February 28th. Once registered, more information about posting resumes and creating a virtual fair account will be sent. For more information, please visit https://www.aimsmddc.org/.

Virtual School Fair with AIMS – 11/10-11/12

AIMS schools from various regions of Maryland and DC will be available to meet with prospective families to answer questions about the admissions process, scholarship and financial aid, the mission and culture that is unique to each independent school and your next steps in joining the AIMS school community! 

Each day of the fair will be devoted to schools located in various geographic regions of MD and DC. Please see the list of schools that will be available on each night of the program (as not ALL AIMS schools are participating in the fair). 

The event will start at 4:00 pm and is scheduled to run until 6:00 pm. It will start with a welcome from Peter Baily, Executive Director of AIMS and a parent-to-parent message on the value of an independent school to your children and your family!

Garrison Forest School Joins Inaugural Year of the New Maryland Interscholastic Cycling League

Garrison Forest School Mountain Bike Team This fall marked the beginning of a first for GFS—and Maryland—as Garrison Forest added a mountain biking team to its list of Upper School fall sports. GFS joined the Maryland Interscholastic Cycling league, which is in its first year in the state, as the only girls’ school in Maryland to participate. The Maryland Interscholastic Cycling League was organized in 2017 to provide a fun, safe and high-quality mountain biking program for students in grades 6 to 12.

Garrison Forest Senior Lila Bennett ’19 Helps Seal NYTS polo championship

Garrison Forest polo player Lila Bennett ‘19 helped lead her team to victory in the National Youth Tournament Series (NYTS) championship in Colorado over Labor Day Weekend, beating the opposing girls’ team 6.5 to 1 to seal the championship. Lila represented the East Coast and competed as one of eight talented up-and-coming young female polo players from across the country in the first invitational Girls All-Star Challenge which took place alongside the Cecil Cup Challenge. Lila was selected from a pool of NYTS All-Stars named for their exceptional horsemanship, sportsmanship and skill, both on and off the field.

Gilman Graduation Ceremony 2018

The 115 members of Gilman’s Class of 2018 marked their high school graduation on Sunday, June 10. Speakers included valedictorian Matthew Ziwen Mu, Board of Trustees President Scott Wieler, and Headmaster Henry P.A. Smyth. Before the graduates received their diplomas, several students won awards for scholarship, athletic performance, or community service. In what has become a tradition, Gilman’s a cappella group, the Traveling Men, sang “The Parting Song,” based on a 17th-century Scottish song. To conclude the ceremony, pairs of graduates left the stage with a special handshake, hug, or selfie. Congratulations to these new Gilman alumni:

Carey Foundation Endows College Counseling Center and Lecture Series at Gilman School

Headmaster Henry P. A. Smyth announced a $3 million investment from the W. P. Carey Foundation to endow the Gilman School college counseling program. This leadership gift to the School’s First Things First campaign is the largest donation to support college counseling received by the School.

On Tuesday, May 8, GFS recognized the school’s five students bound for art colleges with an inaugural Arts Signing Day.
