ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — Ben Jealous is exhausted but optimistic.

The Democratic candidate for Maryland governor conceded as much in an Oct. 15 interview with Capital News Service.

“You can see I’m a little weary after 500 days of … campaigning, but I am extremely optimistic that we’ll win this general the same way we won the primary,” Jealous said. “We’’l defy every pollster and every pundit. Then we’ll win.”

OWINGS MILLS, Maryland — Maryland’s Republican Gov. Larry Hogan and his Democratic challenger, Ben Jealous, on Monday painted starkly different portraits of both each other and the direction they would take the state in the lone debate of the 2018 Maryland governor’s race.

It’s been a predictably heated race between incumbent GOP Gov. Larry Hogan and his Democratic challenger Ben Jealous this summer, as chronicled in the press. But even as their campaigns have thrown barbs at one another over one-off statements and disagreements on ideology, the men have not appeared side-by-side to lob their criticisms and judgments for our viewing pleasure.

Poll: Hogan holds 16-point lead over Jealous

In the first poll released ahead of the general election in November, Republican Gov. Larry Hogan holds a 16-point lead over his challenger, former NAACP president and venture capitalist Ben Jealous.

Of the 831 registered voters surveyed between Aug. 1-8, 52 percent said they would back Hogan, compared with 36 percent for Jealous, according to the new poll released by Gonzales Research & Media Services. Eleven percent remained undecided, and 1 percent said they would cast a ballot for either Libertarian candidate Shawn Quinn or Green Party candidate Ian Schlakman.
