Bill Gates may live in Washington state, and Warren Buffet holes up in Nebraska, but Maryland has plenty of billionaires, too. Want proof? Forbes recently released its list of the 400 richest Americans, and seven Marylanders make the cut. Can you guess who they are?

Theodore Lerner is the Richest Person in Maryland

Micfosoft mogul Bill Gates, of the state of Washington, was the richest person in America with a net worth of $70.8 billion.

Theodore “Ted” Lerner, with a net worth of $4.1 billion, is the richest person in Maryland.

Here are some of the states and their richest billionaires, according to Wealth-X:

He’s rich (like, multibillionaire-rich), powerful (mayor of New York City), and if he’s not handsome (sorry, Mike!), he makes up for it by being loyal. So loyal, in fact, that he has given more than a billion dollars to Johns Hopkins — the largest-ever gift to a single educational institution. So how can Hopkins (or other schools) find their next Bloombergs? Step one:  don’t ignore the C-students.

Nine Maryland Billionaires Named to Forbes List


Courtesy of Citybizlist – With a net worth of $3.7 billionMitchell Rales, the 55-year-old founder of manufacturing and technology company Donaher, led Maryland’s nine billionaires on Forbes magazine’s listing of the world’s billionaires.

Rales, along with brother Steven, built Equity Group Holdings by buying small manufacturing companies during the junk bond frenzy of the 1980s.

Forbes, which has tracked the world’s billionaires for the past 25 years, counted an all-time high 1,226 billionaires worth a record $4.6 trillion this year. Mexican Carlos Slim topped the list with $69.5 billion.

Baltimore’s Kevin Plank made the list at #1075. Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, who lives in Anne Arundel County, also made the list.

Eight Marylanders on Forbes’ List of 400 Richest Americans


Eight billionaires from Maryland led by real estate magnate Ted Lerner are among Forbes’ 400 Richest Americans.

In the business magazine’s 30th annual ranking, Lerner was ranked 103rd with a net worth of $3.3 billion as of Aug. 26. Besides running Lerner Enterprises, he owns and runs the Washington Nationals baseball team.

Here are the eight Marylanders to make the list, with their ranking, name, age, net worth in billions, residence, and business:
