When the Emmy nominations were announced yesterday, comedian Amy Schumer had reason to celebrate: She was nominated in the “outstanding lead actress in a comedy series” category. And she chose to celebrate in true Baltimore style–with a six-pack of Resurrection Ale from Brewer’s Art, of course.
“It’s a beautiful day in Baltimore,” Kevin Spacey said when the New York Times called him up last week to congratulate him on his Emmy Award nomination for lead actor in a drama series. That series is, of course, House of Cards, which received eight other nominations, including those for best drama, lead drama actress, and lead drama director. But it wasn’t the only Baltimore-filmed show to dominate this year’s nominations.
The Emmy nomination announcement must’ve been bittersweet news for Kevin Clash, who received a “best performer in a children’s series” nod for his role as Elmo on Sesame Street — a job he left back in November after numerous allegations of sex with minors. (Clash is a native Baltimorean and attended Towson University.)
If Baltimore’s recent ranking as third “dirtiest” city in America has got you down (which it shouldn’t; New York City ranked first and people can’t shut up about how much they love that place), you can take some consolation in Baltimore’s showing at the Emmys last night.
