Getting the Most Out of Life with Two Health Nuts

Is the specter of Thanksgiving starting to keep you up at night? Are you already letting your fitness regime slip in anticipation of holiday madness? Or maybe you’re deciding to just call the next couple months a wash, with a resolution to start fresh in the New Year. If you find yourself answering, “Yes,” it’s time you were introduced to the new gals in the neighborhood…

Baltimore Fishbowl Weekend

Get Up & Go!

Yup, it’s officially the holiday season now. But of course it’s still early enough that you can get a head start. Either that or simply take this weekend to catch your breath between Halloween and the coming weeks of merriment, family gatherings, and shopping, shopping, and more shopping.

For fashionistas, be sure to swing by the Village of Cross Keys to check out The Girl Next Door— the new boutique that’s just opened this weekend. You can also hit this evening’s 6th Annual Divas Fashion Show— which will feature local designers, and local beers as well.

The Charm City Fringe Festival is still on, as well. So if you haven’t made it out to some of these experimental theatrical offerings, you still can.

If you’re going to be down by the Harbor, may want to hop aboard one of the three ships that will visit our port this week. Touring the ship is free, and you can get an up close look at a Norwegian tall ship, a Brazilian Navy ship, and a Danish Frigate.

And while you’re in the neighborhood, why not get your workout in? You can stop into lululemon for a free workout with Jason Williams from 9:30-10:30a.m. Just what we need, with turkey and Christmas cookies looming.

Soul Body’s Thrive Wellness Series

Wellness Workshops

catch of the day fish (2)True health and wellness takes work from a variety of angles. We all known the pitfalls of hitting the gym hard but following it up with a decadent triple-mocha-something-or-other; or hoping that simply eating a sugar-fat-carb-everything-free diet will magically transform us into chiseled, marathon-running super humans. Sadly, it doesn’t quite work like that. Anyone who really knows health (and believe us, the women behind Soul Body do), knows that you’ve got to combine diet, exercise, and even self care for the total package of feeling and looking great. And as we dive into fall (and yes, that is what’s happening, though the weather might not seem like it) Soul Body is offering the perfect workshop series for developing a total-body approach to health.

Free Fitness Classes from Waterfront Wellness

Waterfront Wellness 2

catch of the day fish (2)Spend enough time at the gym or going to fitness classes and you’re likely to see your body start to slim down. But more often than not, you’ll likely see your wallet start to slim down, too. Sure, our bodies are temples, but sometimes the cost of maintenance for those temples (particularly those that could qualify for the historic registry) can add up. But thank goodness for the good people behind Waterfront Wellness—the series that offers free fitness classes, including yoga, boxing boot camp, Parkour and Zumba, from 8:00am to 10:00am most Saturdays and Sundays all summer long at West Shore Park.

Harbor East’s FIT+ Festival: A Street Project of Sport & Health

Health and Sport Festival

catch of the day fish (2)Well, it is officially, absolutely, undeniably beach season. That is to say, it’s swimsuit season. And sure, maybe you’ve been dutifully toning and sculpting since your New Year’s resolution six months ago (um, can we borrow your self-discipline, please?) but then again, maybe not. Of course, the good news is that it’s never too late to get in shape and prioritize your health, and a little really can go a long way toward making you not just look good, but also feel good. catch of the day fish (2)If you’re looking to make sure you’re in super shape for beach season, doesn’t it make sense to turn to folks who have the word “beach” in their name? BeachFit Baltimore is a new, and totally unique fitness studio founded by two women who are serious about health, fitness, and helping Baltimoreans sculpt super-buff, climb-a-mountain-with-your-bare-hands-and-then-go-surfing-afterward bodies in a fun, energizing setting. Community Detox Yoga Workshop at Charm City Yoga

Detox Yoga

catch of the day fish (2)Your body is a temple. You know that. But life gets busy, time gets scarce, and the next thing you know, your temple has been filled to overflowing with gas station treats, take-out meals, all manner of deep-fried-who-knows-what. And it seems that the temple hasn’t hired a regular custodian in years. Hmm. Time to call in Marissa Walch from Charm City Yoga. Marissa is an expert at getting the baddies out and the good habits (and energy) in. This Sunday, at Charm City Yoga’s Midtown location, you can join Marissa for an afternoon of total detox—focusing on everything from asanas (poses) to self care to clean eating.

Glam&Go Hair Styling at the Gym

Glam and Go Hair Styling

catch of the day fish (2)Working out is supposed to make you look and feel good—and over the long term, it does. But those moments post-workout are certainly not glamorous ones. Your face is red and sweaty, and your hair is, well, “bad hair day” doesn’t even begin to explain the situation. But most of us have to squeeze in gym time as it is, and if you’ve got to rush off to work or a social engagement, you probably can’t afford to spend the rest of the day with gym hair. And that’s just what the folks at Glam&Go were thinking when they founded their amazing service. Basically, Glam&Go offers in-gym hair styling and blow outs. So you get professional, salon-quality hair with the convenience and speed you need after a drop in at the gym.
