You know we love Christopher Schafer and all he does. You may have heard us sing his praises for his work with the Baltimore Fashion Alliance— which promotes local designers and helps creative, fashion-minded Baltimoreans find their footing in the fashion industry. Or perhaps we were in awe of the time and labor he gives to Sharp Dressed Man, through which he supports low-income men re-entering the workforce by providing them with high quality, gently used menswear– which can often make or break a man’s opportunities for employment. But all of that isn’t even Schafer’s primary occupation.  For the last five years, Schafer has been Baltimore’s leading clothier for gorgeous, unique menswear– making this town just that much more easy on the eyes. And every local man with an eye for style is grateful for that (as are the women who love them). Well, today Schafer’s circle of influence is about to widen, as the clothier launches his new online store– a first for the company. Online, customers will be able to purchase Schafer’s handmade silk ties, bow ties, pocket squares and accessories. And since this also marks the company’s 5th Anniversary, there’s even an added perk– Schafer’s way of celebrating and saying “thank you.”

New Look, New Location, Same Tasteful Menswear for Gentlemen at Samuel Parker in Cross Keys

Samuel Parker has long been our gold standard for a local men’s haberdashery. Named for owner Ken Himmelstein’s own grandfather, the shop caters to gentlemen of refined and classic tastes. And while some women may lament that that can seem to be a dying breed, the success of Samuel Parker and Himmelstein’s vision seems to indicate otherwise.
In fact, the shop is so popular that Himmelstein has actually moved locations, opening up in the Village of Cross Keys (as though you needed another reason to visit one of our favorite shopping oases). The new and expanded Samuel Parker opened its doors Thursday, Sept 4, complete with all the incredible menswear the shop is known for, plus new offerings that take the shop well beyond just fashion, embracing all things that make for a man of complete style.

Diamond Chip Menswear from Christopher Schafer

Menswear with diamonds

catch of the day fish (2)To listen to Marilyn, you’d believe that diamonds are a girl’s (and only a girl’s) best friend. Au contraire. The sparkle and refinement of diamonds has a seductive power that doesn’t discriminate. So leave it to the luxury fabric designers at Scabal to create a special line of suit fabrics with actual diamond fragments woven into it. And leave it to Christopher Schafer, one of our favorite local clothiers, to bring such luxury to Baltimore. But maybe we should reiterate, in case you didn’t actually catch it the first time, that this is suit fabric with actual, literal diamonds woven into it. And it’s known as the Diamond Chip.

SNL Rips on Jos. A. Bank Suits in Skit

It’s been a rough month for Jos. A. Bank.  First, Men’s Wearhouse takes it over, and over the weekend Saturday Night Live hilariously knocked the quality of  the local menswear company’s suits, characterizing them as more absorbent and affordable than paper towels!

Refer A Friend

catch of the day fish (2)We all have this person in our life. The friend or family member who looks alright day-to-day, but you don’t really give their look a second thought. They’re dressed, what they’re wearing is perfectly appropriate, but also, it’s not really remarkable in any way. Then one day they show up to a wedding, a holiday party, any special occasion, really, and they’ve decided to go all out. To make themselves look like a million bucks. And they do. “You sure clean up well,” everyone mutters, pleasantly surprised by the transformation. But then the next day, poof. Back to normal. Cinderella, pumpkin, etc. Well, if you want to help encourage (gently or not) this person to move toward making everyday a dress-your-best day, Christopher Schafer is making it more appealing than ever.
