If everyone seems a little more hopped up this weekend, that’s because Baltimore Beer Week has arrived. Over the next nine days, there are loads of tasting events and deals at most of your favorite bars to drink craft beer. This weekend, one local brewery is kicking things off with a new brew.
On Saturday, Oct. 10, Union Craft Brewing unveils its homage to former mayor Kurt Schmoke. It’s a German-style Rauch lager with a smoky aroma called Schmoke Rauchbier.
Schmoke was the city’s first black mayor, and gave us the slogan, The City That Reads, which adorned city benches before “The Greatest City in America.” As the president of University of Baltimore, he’s still advocating for education.
Union is celebrating the release with a party at the brewery from 12-5 p.m. Along with the beer, they’ll have food from biscuit specialists Blacksauce Kitchen and Neopol Savory Smokery.
