Well, at least the white nationalist that Towson’s new White Student Union has invited to speak on campus next month is a relatively moderate white nationalist. On the other hand…
Jared Taylor, the American journalist invited to Towson’s campus by Matthew Heimbach’s White Student Union, has some, shall we say, unconventional views. He thinks racial profiling is great. He thinks that other races are objectively, provably, biologically less intelligent than white people. His take on Katrina? “When blacks are left entirely to their own devices, Western Civilization—any kind of civilization—disappears. And in a crisis, civilization disappears overnight.” He thinks we should get rid of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I could go on; I won’t. Okay, one more: the Southern Poverty Law Center, those experts we all turned to in the wake of the shooting at the Sikh temple, describe Taylor as “the cultivated, cosmopolitan face of white supremacy. He is the guy who is providing the intellectual heft, in effect, to modern-day Klansmen.”
Taylor’s less divisive explanation of what he believes is this:
What we call race realism is what was considered common sense until perhaps the 1950s. It is a body of views that was so taken for granted it had no name, but it can be summarized as follows: That race is an important aspect of individual and group identity, that different races build different societies that reflect their natures, and that it is entirely normal for whites (or for people of any other race) to want to be the majority race in their own homeland. If whites permit themselves to become a minority population, they will lose their civilization, their heritage, and even their existence as a distinct people.
All other groups take it for granted that they have a right to speak out in their own interests. Only whites have lost this conviction.
Heimbach is, unsurprisingly, totally stoked to host this prominent voice of “moderate” racism via his new group: “It is an honor to host Jared Taylor. I could not think of a better way to begin the school year than by hosting a speech by him. The students of Towson will finally be afforded the opportunity to learn something other than the cultural Marxism that is espoused by their professors,” he writes.
Taylor’s appearance at Towson is scheduled for October 2; he’s slated to speak about “the case for white identity.” We’ll bet money that a protest group forms; we’ll keep you informed about that, too.
