In the coming weeks, Pigtown Design writer Meg Fielding will take you inside Halcyon Farm, the historic estate owned by interior designer Stiles Colwill and Jonathan Gargiulo. From the stables to the gardens to the antiques store, Meg will give readers a peek into life at the bucolic, 122-acre farm in the Greenspring Valley, and the adjacent fine home boutique. This week, Meg introduces us to Halcyon House Antiques.

What began as the desire to preserve a 200-year old house became the inspiration for the local shop Halcyon House Antiques. And what began as an antiques shop has now become a destination for finding gorgeous china, silverware, glassware, men’s and women’s accessories and jewelry, art and home furnishings.

Halcyon House Antiques is owned by local decorator and taste-maker, Stiles Colwill and his husband, Jonathan Gargiulo, who works for his family’s antiques business, John Rosselli & Associates, during the week in New York. Between the two of them, they have an unerring eye for what’s new, what’s the best, and what customers love. Halcyon House Antiques makes a point of carrying lines that no other shop in the Baltimore area carry.

Settled into a lush meadow on Greenspring Avenue, each of Halcyon House Antiques’ rooms is filled with the furnishings that make a house a home. Paintings line the walls, china sits atop a sideboard, napkins line a dinner table, beautiful soaps scent the bathroom and plush pillows invite you to take a seat for a moment.

When you want to take a hostess gift that’s sure to get you a repeat invitation, stop by Halcyon House Antiques and pick up a Rigaud candle from France,

If you are getting married, stop by Halcyon House Antiques and set up your wedding registration list. They have a range of items which are both classic and contemporary.

Eric Walch, who manages Halcyon House Antiques, is at the shop from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Tuesdays to Saturdays. He will help you put together a table top ensemble, pick out a present for a friend, advise you on your purchases, and if you ask nicely, he will wrap them beautifully for you, too.

Over the next several months, we will be talking about entertaining, the holidays, what’s happening at the shop – and we’ve already got a full autumn schedule – collecting, antiques and much more.

For more information about Halcyon House, visit the store website, or visit the shop at 11219 Greenspring Avenue in Lutherville. Say hi to Eric and buy something fun!
