WNADA Community event on Saturday, April 27, 2 pm - 4 pm.

The West North Avenue Development Authority (WNADA) will discuss their plans for revitalizing the West North Avenue corridor during an event this Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m.

In partnership with the Pennsylvania Avenue Black Arts District, the event will take place at the Carey and Cumberland Park in the Sandtown Winchester neighborhood. Community leaders and public officials will share words of hope for the role of WNADA in “Building a Better Future for West Baltimore,” while the Pennsylvania Avenue Black Arts and Entertainment District team will provide several performances.

Guests include Chad Williams, the executive director for WNADA; State Sen. Antonio Hayes (Maryland’s 40th District); Councilman James Torrence, from Baltimore City District 7; and many others.

WNADA hopes to share information about its ongoing mission to revitalize the West North Avenue Corridor. The program will include reflections on the 9th anniversary of public awareness of the neighborhood in West Baltimore following the killing of Freddie Gray.

The West North Avenue Development Authority is an economic development agency for the State of Maryland whose goal is to “benefit West Baltimore, the residents, and improve housing, neighborhoods, economic development, and transportation, including motor vehicles and pedestrian foot traffic to catalyst equitable economic development opportunities throughout West Baltimore which has been hindered by historic discrimination,” according to its website.

WNADA has developed a Comprehensive Revitalization Plan to improve housing, transportation, and neighborhood development to advance restorative justice and community development. It has created a roll out of the plan that includes a series of public information sessions to share the details of the plan for the West North Avenue corridor with the community. The first already took place on April 20, but the next two are planned for June 8 (10 a.m. – 12 p.m.) and July 13 (10 a.m. – 12 p.m.). They’ll take place at Unity Hall, 1505 Eutaw Place, Baltimore, MD. People interested in attending can register at this link.

Saturday’s event will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Carey and Cumberland Park at 1641 N. Carey Street, Baltimore, MD. It will feature guest speakers, performances by the Pennsylvania Avenue Black Arts and Entertainment District artists, and presentations about what WNADA has planned to continue revitalizing the Sandtown Winchester community.
