The first flight from Baltimore’s airport to Havana took off Wednesday, making BWI one of only a few airports to offer flights to Cuba.
The nonstop service to the Cuban capital is being booked through Island Travel & Tours and operated by Swift Air. The flight will head out once a week on Wednesday.
BWI is one of 19 airports nationwide to offer the service. The flights come as a result of President Barack Obama made a decision to re-establish diplomatic relations with Cuba.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the flights are starting at $649, and are only expected to increase. So while it may be cool to be among the first Americans to visit Cuba in generations, it’s not exactly the budget trip to Iceland that Wow Air is offering.
