Looking for a kid-friendly option for New Years Eve? Head to Hampden for the 2nd Annual Kiddie Scoop Ball Drop at The Charmery. Owners (and new parents to the OH SO CUTE Maggie) David and Laura Alima wanted to create something for families with young children to ring in the new year – a little earlier.
At 8:00pm outside the popular ice cream shop at the corner of W. 36th and Chestnut, a milk jug “ball” will drop. This year’s ball is being designed and created by local Hampden resident and artist, Steve Baker of Wholly Terra. There is also a complimentary sparkling cider toast.
The over-the-top lights of 34th Street are just two blocks south. So, you can walk up and down 34th Street one more time – and eat ice cream. That sounds like a perfect night in Baltimore. The Charmery also makes delicious hot chocolate you can take for the walk…complete with housemade (ridiculously addictive) marshmallows. The weather forecast is calling for a dip in the temperature, so maybe it will finally FEEL like holiday time, just in time.
David Alima says that on Wednesday night, the featured flavor will be champagne sorbet, along with newer flavors like malty kahlua and pomello creamsicle. What’s your favorite Charmery flavor? I’m pretty much in love with the pistachio toffee. That’s the stuff.
Let’s ring in the New Year a little early, and bring the kiddos, too.
