From fun in Fell’s Point to wine in the country, this week offers tons of opportunities to eat and drink around Baltimore. Here’s a look at what’s on tap:

Openings & announcements

The owners of Oleum announced this week that they are opening Dahlia Cocinita, a vegan Latin café in Canton.

Ubon, a Thai spot, is slated to open in the old Nacho Mama’s space in Canton. The restaurant, which will open early next year, is the brainchild of Jack Wongchalee, who is also involved in The Dara and Bodhi Corner.

Luma, a center bar and cocktail lounge, is opening next to Luk Fu in the Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland.

Bar Alice Anne now has happy hour specials from Tuesday to Thursday, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Sadly, Guinness Open Gate Brewery announced this week that it will close on Nov. 1.  When the brewery opened in 2018, it was the only Guinness brewery in the U.S. In 2023, the brand opened a brewery, restaurant and tap room in Chicago.

Anniversaries

Happy fortieth to the crew at Max’s Taphouse, which opened on its Fell’s Point corner in late September 1986. The iconic beer bar doesn’t have a big celebration planned – yet – but it’s always a good idea to stop in for a beer.

Animal Boy celebrates a year in business in Hamilton with a month full of events, starting with First Friday festivities.

And happy 11 years in business to Blue Moon Too in Federal Hill, which celebrated the day on Sept. 30.

Fell’s Point Fun Festival

The Fell’s Point Fun Festival is back from Oct. 2-4 – celebrating sixty years of Fell’s Point festivals. The event, which supports The Society for the Preservation of Federal Hill and Fell’s Point, features live music, local vendors, and lots of options for eating and drinking,

Oktoberfests

Now that the calendar has turned, Oktoberfest season has entered full swing. Prost!

Wet City’s annual Oktoberfest celebration starts Friday, Oct. 2 with German-style beers, food specials, and 17-ounce tankards.

On Saturday, Oct. 3, Mobtown Brewing brings back Mobtoberfest, an all day block party with music, food trucks, local makers, and beer releases.

R. House is also all in on Oktoberfest on Saturday with an afternoon and evening of live music, oysters, tons of beers, and German-style food from Kitsch Café.

New for October

In addition to Oktoberfest action, the start of the month means the addition of new menu items and vibes at several local spots.

Johnny’s goes all out with décor every October – and this year is no exception. The Roland Park restaurant has been transformed into a Hollywood Halloween set, with nods to tons of classic spooky flics.

The Duchess is also getting in on the spooky action with the airing of a different scary movie every Thursday all month long.

At The Corner Pantry, the drink of the month is – of course – the pumpkin spice latte, served iced or hot.

Vivian’s brand new seasonal latte list includes five different choices – and the menu also has hot apple cider and “chaider.”

In honor of the new month, Wicked Sisters has launched its new fall/winter menu, including dishes like labneh and beet salad and Irish whiskey chicken.

Porto at Hello Trouble

On Saturday night, Porto Pizza is popping up at Hello Trouble, serving both seasonal and classic pizzas. This is the first installment of what might become a regular pop-up.

Equitea x Magdalena

On Tuesday, Magdalena is teaming up with the crew from Equitea for a four-course collaborative meal, plus drinks inspired by Equitea’s lineup.

Tuscany in SoBo

The evening of Thursday, Oct. 8, Hersh’s is putting a spotlight on the wines – and food – of central Italy and Tuscany, with a four-course wine dinner and discussion from Free Run Wine & Spirits’ Lauren Loeffler.

Harvest & Vine at The Fishmonger’s Daughter

Also on Thursday, The Fishmonger’s Daughter celebrates fall with Harvest & Vine, a four course meal with optional wine pairings. The menu focuses on the restaurant’s new fall menu items along with thoughtfully paired wines or “house-crafted” NA drinks.

The Night Brunch returns

Also on Thursday, The Night Brunch makes its triumphant return with a “homecoming” event at Port Covington Marina Paier. The party includes a DJ, cocktails from Bar Movement, and food from a bunch of favorites, including Soul Smoked BBQ and The Urban Oyster.

Oregon wine supper

On Friday, Oct. 9, Chef’s Expressions hosts a meal showcasing wines from Oregon’s Bryn Mawr. The multicourse meal, which takes place at The Manor Tavern, includes dishes like venison stew with whipped parsnips, and duck confit with hazelnut risotto, wild mushrooms, and a foie gras profiterole.
