Free gun locks are available to Howard County residents thanks to a partnership linking the Howard County Health Department, Howard County Library, Howard County Police Department and the federal Department of Veterans Affairs.
HCLS began distributing the gun locks at its Elkridge and East Columbia library branches in mid-May. The initiative is designed to increase access to safe firearm storage solutions in a trusted, convenient community location, making it easier for families and individuals to secure firearms and reduce the risk of harm.
According to Tonya Aikens, president & CEO of HCLS, the VA made the locks available to the library system through a one-time donation.
