Sagamore Spirit has set April 21 as the opening date for the whiskey distillery it’s building in Port Covington.

Tours of the facility, including tastings of Sagamore Rye, will be offered during the opening weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Located at 301 E. Cromwell Street, Sagamore Spirit Distillery will be one of the first completed development projects in the proposed transformation of the Port Covington waterfront. Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank is leading the effort through various affiliates. Ayers Saint Gross was the architect for the distillery.

Other finished projects thus far include Under Armour’s Building 37, a conversion of a former Sam’s Club big box store, and the City Garage, a business incubator at 101 W. Dickman Street.

Unlike Building 37 or the City Garage, which were conversions of existing buildings, the distillery is all new construction. The multi-building complex includes the distillery itself, a processing building, a two-story restaurant and events venue, a support building and a water tower, all surrounding an open courtyard.

More than 100,000 people a year are expected to visit Plank’s new distillery.
