Do you remember being a 10 or 12 year old girl?  Do you recall the  most important thing in your tween universe? Fair to say that some current day tweens might name their iphone, but with our well-earned parent wisdom we know it is actually their friends. The friendships we form in our tween years are some of the most important in our lives. Our tween best friend is the one we tell about our first crush, she is the best person to complain to about our parents {it’s ok, parents are complaining about their tween to their friends too}. It is in these friendships that we learn to laugh at ourselves and we test the limits of how to treat the people we value. Sometimes geography or circumstances take these besties in different directions and they don’t get to be the life-long friends they always promised to be, but the mark they make on each other is a forever one. It is for all these reasons and more that Wee Chic has partnered with tween/teen photographer, Kakki Morrison, to bring you a Mini-Session Series that celebrates tween girls and their besties.

weechicThe hugs, the squeals, the endless texting and inside secrets – there is something rare and unique about tween best friends. Wee Chic children’s boutique in Green Spring Station understands this special bond and has enlisted the help of local tween photographer Kakki Morrison to help capture this special time in a girls’ life.

On Saturday, April 18 and Saturday, April 25, Kakki will be at Wee Chic offering 40-minute mini-sessions for up to four young ladies at a time.

Special February Package from Christopher Schafer Clothiers

Christopher Schafer

catch of the day fish (2)Well, back to non-football-crazed reality. Not that we’re complaining. Frankly, the amount of sales, specials, shows, and other social/cultural offerings that we missed these past weeks—due to our Ravens-colored myopia—was becoming unsustainable. At the end of The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy swears she’ll never again stray any farther than her own backyard. Similarly, we swear we’ll never again let the anticipation of one silly game blind us for so long to everything else going on. Or at least we’ll try. In any event, one fantastic offer we haven’t missed (thank goodness) is the special February deal from Christopher Schafer Clothiers—essentially a whole package of fine custom menswear for one inclusive price.

Get on the Bus: GoGo’s Retread Threads

 Gogo's vintage in Baltimore

Food trucks, schmood trucks. Give us clothing trucks! Or, clothing buses, really. Or actually clothing, shoes, accessories and jewelry buses. And also can you make all of that stuff vintage? And can you make the person who stocks, decorates, and drives said bus be super fun to play dress-up and chat with? And also, can you make the bus show up at our favorite places and events—like farmer’s markets and neighborhood street fairs? Does this sound like too specific of a fantasy? If so, blame Stacey of Gogo’s Retread Threads for setting the bar this high for vintage shopping bar for Baltimore.

With such a great collection of unique goods, and a funkily-painted mobile store (yes, it is a repurposed school bus) it’s no wonder Gogo’s was just named “Best Vintage” by the City Paper. We’d been noticing Stacey and her bus for a while now (they’re hard to miss) at the Sunday farmer’s market, which is one of her regular spots. If you can’t make it to the Sunday market (though you should—it’s the best), you can also find her at the Towson and JFX farmer’s markets regularly, and stalk her and the goods via her Facebook page, which reveals upcoming stops.

Ouchless: Bandage Dresses and More at the Best of Baltimore Party

Hotties at the Hippodrome. Pictures by B. Boyd (on her iPhone).

Did we mention we got “Best New Website” in Baltimore Magazine’s “Best of Baltimore” issue on stands now?  We did?  Oh. Okay. Well, a few BFB writers and editors went to the big party at the Hippodrome last Thursday night to celebrate.

None of us had been before. It was packed. Nearly every restaurant in town had a table and was giving out bites, there were assorted bars and two live bands. The second we got there it was obvious that all of us had underdressed: Nearly everyone was dressed to the nines. Most of the women wore dresses and the men wore ties.  The women’s dresses were sparkly, animal print, colorful, short, long, tight, plunging. Apparently, knock-offs of the “bandage” dress, made popular in the ’80s by French designer Herve Leger, are all the rage.  (My niece told me rented one from Rent the Runway for the prom last year.)

See below for some snaps of the fun.  We added our own Best of…
