Fresh off of a very exciting conference championship win over the University of Vermont, punctuated by a buzzer-beating three, the 16-seeded University of Maryland, Baltimore County is set to square off with 1-seeded University of Virginia this Friday. While the Retrievers will likely put up a valiant fight, the odds are anything but in their favor.

Yesterday was a long day for the University of Maryland men’s basketball team, but when Selection Sunday was all said and done, the Terps had snagged a surprising no. 6 seed for their March Madness matchup against Xavier University.
Garden and Gun is a magazine of the South. Being a media publication, they must partake in some form of March Madness promotion. But, being, as we mentioned, in the South, they’re more inclined for pigskin than basketball. So, they turned to barbecue, and are allowing joints from places like Baltimore in the bracket.
Baltimore is a pizza lovers’ paradise, as our “best of” March Madness contest illustrated this spring. You’ll remember that Birroteca in Hampden won the most praise – after more than 20,000 contest votes were cast. Other crusty local legends – who topped the tasty competition – were Joe Squared in Station North, Johnny Rad’s on Eastern Ave., Tooloulou of East Baltimore, Iggie’s in Mount Vernon, and Matthew’s in Highlandtown. I personally pine for the pie at Two Boots next door to MICA and the slim, steaming slices at BOP (Brick Oven Pizza) in Fells Point.
Which brings me to my pizza-relevant point. With the new Domino’s walk-in shop opening in Hamilton this week, a stone’s throw from my Belair-Edison hood, I’m wondering how many of us true pie enthusiasts will bother to bite. Please weigh in below. Is Domino’s a processed-food guilty/nostalgic pleasure you still indulge in, when time is super short?
Originally posted March 22, 2013 @ 10:30 a.m. – Do you like pizza as much as we do? We like it a lot. So remember a few weeks ago when Travel + Leisure named Baltimore one of the top 20 cities for pizza? Well, we thought the entries were a little thin, so with March Madness upon us (as good a reason as any to stuff our faces with pizza), with thought we’d conduct our own survey and hold the first Baltimore Fishbowl best pizza contest. Doesn’t that sound cheesy? In the best way!
We’re calling it Fishbowl’s Finest – Best Pizza.
It’s simple, especially for pizza experts. We ask you: Out of our favorite pizza places, which do you love the most?
Then you show your love by voting as many times as you like! May the odds be in your favorite flavorful pizza place’s favor.
UPDATE 3/25/2013: You asked, we listened. :] Three Wild Card entries have been added. The support has been tremendous. Let’s keep it up!
UPDATE 3/27/2013: If you haven’t voted, go ahead and vote. If you have, do so again. And again. And again. But only until Friday because that’s when we take the choices down to eight (just like March Madness, get it?) and allow only one vote a day. The contest ends on April 8, the date of the March Madness final.
