With President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet already taking shape, some Americans are excited, though many others are considerably nervous. Count Maryland’s own Sen. Ben Cardin, Senator-elect Chris Van Hollen and Rep. Steny Hoyer among those on the nervous side.

Though I have voted in every presidential election since Carter/Ford in ’76, I have often felt that the difference between the two candidates ranged from not much to slightly more than that. Once they get to Washington and get whopped over the head by the checks and balances, not to mention the lobbyists and the PACs, it’s more or less business as usual. The pro-life Bushes did not manage to recriminalize abortion, and Obama couldn’t stop the war. American politics blah blah blah, life goes on.
It appears President Barack Obama is making at least one nomination this week. Carla Hayden, who currently has the top job at the Enoch Pratt Free Library, is set to be nominated as the Librarian of Congress, according to the White House.
Sleep-away camp went to Washington this week. About 50 Girl Scouts camped out on the South Lawn of the White House, and a group of Baltimore-area scouts were among them. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama came down when he heard a commotion in the yard.
Last week, Dominic Adesanya was dragged from the White House lawn after jumping the fence. On Monday, the Bel Air man once again had to be removed from federal property after an outburst in court.
Somehow I missed this video of the Ravens’ White House visit until today. Joe is cute, Ray is cute, Barack is cute — the whole thing just makes me grin.

But there’s another Raven with strong political beliefs — so strong, in fact, that he sat out the team’s White House visit earlier this week in protest.
