The art of the witty wifi network name has largely gone unrecognized–until now.
Thanks to kottke.org for pointing us toward Baltimore artist Julia Kim Smith‘s The Real Wi-Fi of Baltimore project, for which Smith traveled around the city and took note of various wifi network names in particular neighborhoods. There are subtle differences in nerdiness by neighborhood, but the overall trends in wifi network names seem to be puns, wordplay, and geeky references.
