Meat the Mushroom, the Baltimore vegan brand of plant-based products that were recently featured on Shark Tank, is launching its “Swap Out the Swine” movement with a debut pop-up event Friday.
“Swap Out the Swine” is a movement dedicated to promoting healthier and tasty alternatives to pork. At the pop-up event, attendees can be among the first to sample their flagship product, Shroomacon, in BLTs and BLT Salad combos. Folks can also meet the founders of Meat the Mushroom, Marvin and Aleah Montague, and learn about their entrepreneurial and health journey.
Baltimorean Marvin Montague credits vegan eating and plant-based living with saving his life. “In less than a year after going vegan, I was able to beat an early diagnosis of heart disease and cure the asthma that had bothered me since childhood!” he wrote on Meat the Mushroom’s website. The company is based proudly in the couple’s hometown of Baltimore.
“It is incredibly important to us that we build a brand that positively and interactively impacts our community,” the Montagues told Baltimore Fishbowl in an email. “Being so warmly received by the City of Baltimore lets us know we are on the right track, and we look forward to continuing this journey with current and future supporters.”

Shroomacon is made with five clean-label ingredients, and is meant to replicate the taste, texture, and smell of bacon. The Montagues dove into the Shark Tank in January 2024, and Shroomacon was a hit. The product is often sold out in stores and markets, but they announce restocks, flash sales, and other deals on their social media accounts.
“We are excited to expand the Meat The Mushroom brand to spread awareness about healthier eating options! Meat The Mushroom has always been about more than just food; it’s about creating a healthier, more sustainable future,” the Montagues said.
