Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article used source information that reported Preak Weeks giveaway winners could win a four-pack of tickets to Preakness 150. Giveaway winners actually have the opportunity to win a two-pack of Preakness tickets. This version has been edited to reflect the correct information.
Preak Weeks returns Monday and runs through May 16, spotlighting Baltimore-based businesses in the lead-up to the 150th Preakness Stakes.
Sponsored by 1/ST and The Maryland Jockey Club, the three-week business and community celebration features daily ticket giveaways and offers businesses the chance to earn a share of ticket sales through custom promo codes.
Each day, one of 19 participating businesses will have an โA Day at the Races to Preakness 150โ giveaway, which includes a two-pack of tickets to Preakness 150. Additionally, each business will have a QR code and custom promotional code for Preakness 150 ticket sales and will receive 10% of all proceeds made through their individual code.
โWe are thrilled to continue leveraging Preakness to support Baltimoreโs independent โ and often small, BIPOC- and women-owned โ businesses,โ said Audra Madison, director of marketing for the Maryland Jockey Club, in a statement. โParticipating business owners will also receive tickets to experience Preakness 150, deepening their connection to this historic event.โ
The businesses range from restaurants and cafรฉs to boutiques, services, and community organizations. No purchase is necessary to win the tickets. People visiting the stores can purchase tickets to Preakness 150 via the storeโs QR code.
“Preak Weeks is an initiative we began exploring with The Maryland Jockey Club and 1/ST Racing a few years ago to actively support local businesses in Park Heights by helping them grow, build capacity, and strengthen their visibility,” said Yolanda Jiggetts, CEO of Park Heights Renaissance, in a statement. “It reflects our commitment to working with the Park Heights community to uplift our local merchants and ensure they are part of the areaโs economic momentum, while also complementing our Main Street program to advance commercial revitalization. We hope that efforts like this continue to grow, ensuring that our local businesses are not only seenโbut truly benefitโfrom the international spotlight that the Preakness brings to our neighborhood each year.”
Participating businesses span a variety of locations in and around Baltimore, ranging from Pikesville to Mount Vernon, Fells Point to Hampden, and Downtown to Timonium. The list includes About Faces Day Spa & Salon in Pikesville, BLK Swan in Harbor East, Doll House Boutique in Mount Vernon, Nickโs Fish House in Baltimore Peninsula, The Urban Oyster in Hampden, and more.
โI am thrilled to continue our partnership with the 1/ST and The Maryland Jockey Club for this yearโs Preak Weeks,โ Klotzman said. โThis initiative not only supports Baltimoreโs diverse local businesses, but it also brings the community together in the lead-up to the excitement of Preakness 150, showcasing the heart and spirit of this remarkable city.โ
All participating businesses, along with access to their websites, are listed at this Preak Weeks link.
