Breath of Fresh Air: Breathing with Heather Davis at Baltimore Yoga Village

Baltimore Yoga Village

catch of the day fish (2)Sometimes we recommend things because they’ve our top faves. Sometimes we just think we’ve found something the world needs to know about. But sometimes, it’s just because we see something and we’re like, “OMG. I Need that. Now.” And so it was when we realized that Baltimore Yoga Village will be offering a one-day workshop on breathing. And it’s coming really, really soon. Can you hear our lungs (and minds and senses of well-being) going “ahhhhhh”?

Waterfront Wellness 2

catch of the day fish (2)Spend enough time at the gym or going to fitness classes and you’re likely to see your body start to slim down. But more often than not, you’ll likely see your wallet start to slim down, too. Sure, our bodies are temples, but sometimes the cost of maintenance for those temples (particularly those that could qualify for the historic registry) can add up. But thank goodness for the good people behind Waterfront Wellness—the series that offers free fitness classes, including yoga, boxing boot camp, Parkour and Zumba, from 8:00am to 10:00am most Saturdays and Sundays all summer long at West Shore Park.

Community Detox Yoga Workshop at Charm City Yoga

Detox Yoga

catch of the day fish (2)Your body is a temple. You know that. But life gets busy, time gets scarce, and the next thing you know, your temple has been filled to overflowing with gas station treats, take-out meals, all manner of deep-fried-who-knows-what. And it seems that the temple hasn’t hired a regular custodian in years. Hmm. Time to call in Marissa Walch from Charm City Yoga. Marissa is an expert at getting the baddies out and the good habits (and energy) in. This Sunday, at Charm City Yoga’s Midtown location, you can join Marissa for an afternoon of total detox—focusing on everything from asanas (poses) to self care to clean eating.

Shopping is hard work, and time consuming,  You want to do the right thing and shop local, but it’s not always easy to get out and see what’s out there.  Respite has done it for you.  Trying to be good about this (because it’s really tempting to be gifting unto one’s self when thinking of yoga and massage), there is no doubt you can name at least five people, right now, who need to relax and feel that someone else is vested in their well-being.  Let that someone be you…well, you and the genuinely caring professionals at Respite Wellness.

LUNCH TODAY: Yoga for Grief & Loss

0

Whether grieving the death of a loved one or going through a divorce, everyone must experience difficult times in order to grow. This workshop will help you understand how pain is infinitely more honest with you than pleasure and how to look pain dead in the eye to find your inner strength and wisdom.

Instructor   Jayne Bernasconi, MA, owner of Yoga on York, E-RYT 500

YAM grief and lossJayne has been a leader in the field of movement and spirit for more than 32 years. She has been teaching yoga since 1989, and is the proud owner of Yoga On York, a studio devoted to helping others find inner peace and harmony amongst the craziness of life. Jayne has been seen flying through the air (all over the country) with her aerial dance company, Air Dance Bernasconi, from 2000-2011, and is the author of three books on yoga, aerial dance and aerial yoga.

Yoga Lunch Today: Find Your Voice & Speak Your Honest Truth

0

Through focus on breath, voice, and energy centers in the body, you’ll be able to experience your natural voice. Through out-loud meditation, learn to speak your truth, even when it hurts. Learn to approach difficult conversations in a nonreactive, honest way, while staying centered in the body. Learn to witness the changing sensations in your body as you speak and remain grounded, even when experiencing sensations associated with anxiety, anger, or sadness. Using tools from the school of soulful communication and basic North Indian classical singing, this workshop is intended to bring yoga off the mat and into the art of healing relationships.

Instructor

Anjali Sunita, Founder and director of Baltimore Yoga Village; director of the Jeevan Yoga Teacher Training

Anjali was originally certified to teach through the Sivananda Yoga Dhanwantari Ashram in Kerela, South India, and has continued study through the Sivananda organization, her home base, as well as dozens of other yoga schools and seminars. Of these, she has been most influenced by Anusara Yoga, mindfulness meditation, Ayurveda, and Soulful Communication. She has been a private student of Guruji Hasu Patel in Hindustani Music (North Indian Classical Singing) for the past 12 years and is beginning to share basic breath and vocal workshops in the community. She’s also certified in prenatal yoga with Janice Clarfield and as a children’s yoga teacher through YoKid. She’ll soon complete certification in AcroYoga, a unique blend of yoga, acrobatics, and Thai massage cofounded by Jason Nemer and Jenny Saur Klein. In addition to the yoga centers, she teaches regularly in ashrams, private homes, adult learning programs, public schools, and federal detention centers, and has raised funds for pilot studies in Yoga for the Blind (Wilmer Institute) and The Drepung Gomang Monastery. Every year she coordinates a group of monks ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on their tour of Maryland to raise money for the Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India, home to Tibetan refugees. Her life mission is to create opportunities to explore our human potential and use yogic and mindfulness-based spirituality to create a sense of greater peace and ease for individuals and communities.
